TN Minister allays fears of Black fungus

Chennai, June 22 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian
today allayed the fears of mucormycosis also called as Black Fungus
affecting people who have recovered from COVID infection.
Replying to former Health Minister Dr C Vijayabaskar (AIADMK)
during the debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor for
his address in the State Assembly, he said Tamil Nadu has so
far reported only 2,510 black fungus cases, when compared to
8,000-plus in states like Maharashtra.
Stating that the government was taking all steps in this regard,
he said special wards to treat black fungus have been opened
in all the district headquarters hospitals.
A total of 130 people, who were affected by black fungus, have
been successfully treated and recovered.
''We have asked the Centre to allot the two drugs, including
Amphotericin-B, from the Central pool. We will procure the
drugs from the Centre and sent to hospitals for treating black
fungus patients'', Mr Subramanian said and allayed the fears
of the people in this regard.
