Maritzburg United chairperson Farouk Kadodia says he may have to sell the club due to the financial toll of the Covid-19 pandemic.

PSL clubs have been hit hard in the pocket due to an eight-month hiatus without football and no money from gate revenues due to the complete absence of fans in stadia.

And Kadodia says if he is not able to secure a sponsor, he will have no choice but to cash in,"Kadodia told IOL website

"I’m trying to follow a short-term process to see if I can either procure an equity partner or a sponsor.

The club face an uphill battle to hold onto their prized assets - Bafana Bafana newbies Thabiso Kutumela and Bongokuhle Hlongwane, while Jethren Barr, Daniel Morgan and Kwanda Mngonyama and Dusan Stevic were released on Monday, fuelling speculation that the club is heading towards a sale.
