Two thugs armed with giant machetes have been caught on camera fighting each other outside of a petrol station before a driver deliberately runs one of them over.

A man, 27,  was taken to hospital after the fight at 9.35pm on Sunday at the Shell garage in Chorley Old Road in Bolton, Greater Manchester.

And two other men, aged 39 and 37, have been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

The disturbing clip comes as shocking new figures last month revealed that machete attacks are happening on Britain's streets every two hours.

In the video, which was filmed by a terrified unknown bystander from a residential window, thugs brandish huge machetes during an altercation in the Shell petrol station forecourt.

Petrol station employees try to stop the men fighting but they continue to square up to one another with their giant blades.

The onlooker then screams in horror as a driver in a 4x4 car suddenly speeds onto the petrol station forecourt and wildly runs over one of the machete-wielding thugs - leaving him lying injured in the middle of the road.

Last month, it was revealed that rising numbers of criminals are choosing machetes as their weapons of choice to instil terror in victims and rival gang members.

In the latest example of 'Wild West Britain', statistics uncovered using freedom of information requests show that in the final two months of 2019 police dealt with 664 crimes involving machetes - an average of 11 a day, or one every 130 minutes.

It represents a dramatic rise from just three years before, when the deadly blades were used in only 100 crimes a month over the same period.
