Hyundai launched the Alcazar on June 18th and it seems like the SUV has already got a good response from the Indian market. The Alcazar has gathered more than 4,000 pre-bookings. The waiting period of the SUV currently varies between four weeks and two months, depending on the variant and colour you opt for. The Alcazar starts at Rs. 16.30 lakhs ex-showroom and goes up to Rs. 20.14 lakhs ex-showroom.

The Alcazar has been positioned between the Creta and the Tucson. Unlike other manufacturers and vehicles, Hyundai is offering no base trim with the Alcazar. So, even the lowest variant is very well equipped. The manufacturer says that equal bookings have been received for petrol and diesel engine. The same is also true for the automatic transmission or the manual gearbox. Even all three variants have received the same number of bookings.

There are three variants of Alcazar on offer. There is Prestige, Platinum and Signature. All three variants are also offered with an automatic transmission. There is petrol and a diesel engine on offer. Hyundai claims a sub 10 second time of 0 to 100 kmph.

The petrol engine produces 159 PS and 191 Nm while the diesel produces 115 PS and 250 Nm. Both the engines are offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. There are three driving modes, namely Eco, City and Sport. There are also three traction modes, namely Snow, Sand and Mud.

The Alcazar currently competes against the MG Hector Plus and the Tata Safari. The Hector Plus is available with turbo petrol and a diesel engine whereas Tata offers the Safari only with a diesel engine. There are rumours that Tata is working on a new turbo petrol engine that is currently under development for the Safari and the Harrier.

In terms of wheelbase, the Alcazar has the longest wheelbase among the competitors. It measures 2,760 mm as compared to 2,741 mm of Safari and 2,750 mm of the Hector Plus. This should help in opening quite a bit of cabin space for the occupants. The boot space is also the best in segment of Alcazar with all three rows up. The boot space measures 180 litres which should be pretty useful if you have small bags. When compared the Tata Safari offers a boot space of just 73 litres with all three rows up and Hector Plus offers 155 litres.

You can get the Alcazar as a 6 seater or a 7 seater. If you get the 6 seater then you get two individual captain chairs. While the competitors also offer captain chairs for the second row they do not offer a dedicated central console for the rear occupants which Alcazar does offer. The second central console comes with two cupholders, storage and a wireless charger.

The cabin of the Alcazar definitely looks like a step up when compared to the Creta. Yes, both of them does have a similar cabin design but Alcazar has soft touchpoints and a premium looking dual-tone black and brown interior instead of black and beige which you get in Creta.
