CHANDIGARH: With 6.27 lakh vaccine jabs administered during the mega drive on Monday,
Haryana surpassed its previous records of daily vaccinations, besides posing a new challenge for neighbouring
Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, New Delhi and
Rajasthan.
Sources said 6,27,132 persons were given the first and second dose of the vaccine. A workforce of 25,000 medicos, para medicos and local administrative staff worked at over 3,700 session sites created during the day.
A total of 5,64,273 people were given the first dose while 62,863 were given the second dose. With this, cumulative vaccination coverage has reached 76,59,824, considered to be the highest among states with the same population size.
Gurgaon and
Faridabad districts, which topped the case and death tally, also registered maximum daily and cumulative vaccination coverage. Gurgaon administered1,04,178 jabs, including 98,203 first dose and 5,975 second dose.
Faridabad reported second highest of 70,027 jabs, including 62,000 first dose and 8,027 second dose. The cumulative count of Gurgaon and Faridabad has reached 1,032 lakh and 7.67 lakh.
Haryana health and family welfare minister Anil Vij was the first to tweet on this achievement. “We had a target of 2.5 lakh jabs, which we had been covering during the day. But entire department and field force have really worked hard and we have achieved this number,” he wrote.
While Vij was taking updates from the department, ACS, health Rajiv Arora was in constant touch with NHM director Dr Prabhjot Singh and state immunisation officer (SIO) Dr Virender Ahlawat.
“We have worked hard but the credit goes to the masses as well as NGOs who have really worked to ensure the success of this drive. ACS had been in touch and was motivating us throughout the day,’’ said a senior official associated with the drive.
Inquiries revealed that the state has around 3.5 lakh stock to resume the drive.
