A man has been charged with the alleged sexual touching of a five-year-old girl at a shop in Sydney's east.

Detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad launched an investigation after reports the minor was inappropriately touched at a store in Bondi earlier this month.

The alleged incident was at a shop in Oxford St on June 4.

Investigators later attended the store in Bondi and arrested a man, 58.

He was taken to Waverley Police Station and charged with 11 counts of sexually touching a child under 10 years old.

The man, from nearby Dover Heights, was refused bail and appeared in Parramatta Local Court on Saturday.

He was formally refused bail and will appear at Central Local Court on Tuesday.
