JALANDHAR: In a meeting of
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) workers of
Adampur constituency on Sunday, common refrain was that the seat should also have been given to their party.
BSP's Punjab unit secretary Vijay Badhan, who was also present at the meeting, however, claimed that meeting was held at the instructions of the high command to convey some instructions to the party workers.
Discontentment has been brewing within the party over 'quality' of seats given to it. The sentiment was apparent at
Adampur meeting too.
The BSP workers pointed out the party had got a lead of around 10,000 votes from this segment in the 2019 parliamentary elections. There was, however, no opposition to alliance with the Shromani
Akali Dal.
Speaking in the meeting, Badhan said workers should not go to the meetings being organised by Akali Dal on their own.
"The party cadres should work through the network of own party and through coordination committees at constituency level. For own small tasks workers should not go to Akali leaders," he said while addressing the meeting.
"We have asked our people to participate in the meetings as per instructions from our own party leadership as our workers are simple people and we don't want anybody to say anything wrong," he justified.
He admitted that most of the workers wanted that seat should have been given to BSP.
As of now, Adampur is represented by
SAD MLA Pawan Teenu. He first contested from the seat in 2012 and won, and then in 2017 also despite anti-SAD wave he manage to retain the seat.
Including Adampur, Akali Dal has managed to retain three seats where BSP has good presence, but SAD has sitting MLAs. Other two are
Banga and Phillaur.
