Some absentee ballots in Detroit's upcoming mayoral election are likely to get mixed in with car payments going to Mercedes-Benz USA's captive lender in Texas.
A third-party vendor used by the city mistakenly sent ballots to voters in one ZIP code with return envelopes meant for Mercedes-Benz Financial Services, another client. A resident who got the wrong envelope posted about the mix-up on Facebook, saying she first thought the city had outsourced ballot collection to the Mercedes office before learning it was an error.
Detroit's city clerk has asked the vendor to resend the correct envelopes to 1,000 addresses that might have gotten the Mercedes envelopes, Deadline Detroit reported last week. The ballots are for the city's mayoral primary in August.
