Pair Charged With Multi-State Killing Spree Hit With New Charges, Accused of Arson
The pair charged with four murders last month in South Carolina and Missouri after a week-long manhunt have been hit with new charges that allege they tried to kill a man who witnessed arson, York County Sheriff's Office said.
Tyler Terry, 26, and his accomplice Adrienne Simpson, 34, are each charged with four counts of murder, including the killing of Simpson's estranged husband, as well as several other shootings in both South Carolina and Missouri.
The pair is also being charged with attempted murder for allegedly shooting six times at a York County man who saw a mobile home on fire on May 17, according to York County Sheriff's Office spokesman Trent Faris.
Simpson is being charged with arson in connection with a fire started at the mobile home, the Kansas City Star reported. The witness who saw the fire described a vehicle and license plate to the police that matched the vehicle Terry and Simpson used in a police chase on May 17.
New police documents released Monday report a woman was inside the mobile home during the fire, but was unable to escape. Motives behind the fire and shooting have not been released, the Kansas City Star reported.
Simpson was arrested after a police chase that started around 11 p.m. on May 17 and ended on May 18 when she crashed. The police attempted to make a stop when the pair was spotted at a Bojangles, but Simpson fled.
After Simpson crashed, Terry escaped on foot, leading to a week-long manhunt that involved more than 300 officers, Newsweek reported on earlier this year.
The charges against the couple include the murder of Simpson's husband, Eugene Simpson, in Chester County, where his body was found in a field on May 19. The charges also include the alleged murder of Terry's ex-partner Thomas Hardin, according to York police.
On May 15, Simpson and Terry were charged with the murders of Barbara Goodkin, 71, and Dr. Sergei Zacharev, 58, in Missouri, who were fatally shot about an hour apart in unrelated incidents, according to St. Louis County prosecutors.
Chester County Sheriff Max Dorsey said the pair are also suspects in a killing that happened in the early morning of May 17 in Memphis, Tennessee, the Kansas City Star reported.
Terry faces 11 counts of attempted murder, as well as weapons violations and burglary during the pair's killing spree that lasted from May 2-18, including shooting at deputies during the police chase on May 17, the Kansas City Star reported.
Terry and Simpson remain in Chester County jail without bond.
