Urban Local Body polls after COVID pandemic subsides : TN Govt

Chennai, June 21 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government will
hold elections to nine remaining rural local bodies and all
urban local bodies after the COVID pandemic subsided.
Delivering his customary address to the newly constituted
16th Legislative Assembly, Governor Banwarilal Purohit said
the DMk government believes strongly in the principle of
Local Self Governance and will revitalize the Rural and
Urban Local Bodies in the State.
"Elections to rural local bodies in the remaining nine
districts and all urban local bodies were due in 2016
and not held. Necessary steps will be taken to hold
the elections after the intensity of the Covid pandemic
subsides and after ensuring that the delimitation exercise
undertaken previously is appropriate in all respects",
he said.
