Railways are committed to provide convenient & smooth travel for its commuters during the ongoing monsoon season. In order to minimize the inconvenience caused due to heavy rains, several monsoon preparation works have been undertaken over Mumbai suburban network. These works included cleaning and de-silting of culverts, nullahs & drains, construction of additional waterways alongwith proper upkeep & maintenance of the mechanical, signalling, electrical assets & equipments. Alok Kansal – General Manager of Western & Central Railway stated that our mission is to run the train services with minimum disruptions during the monsoon & our esteemed passengers reach their destination safely & securely. He emphasized that it is the endeavour of Railways to ensure smooth & hassle-free service to the commuters.
According to a press release issued by Sumit Thakur – Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, Railways has extensively carried out maintenance work of various railway installations such as Overhead Equipment, Signaling & Telecommunication infrastructure, Electronic & Electrical Installations, etc. The tracks & OHE in the low-lying areas were lifted in the range of 100 mm to 250 mm at 15 identified locations. This will avert the possibility of flooding of tracks during heavy intensity rainfall coupled with high tide. The trees in the vicinity of railway tracks & other overhead installations have been trimmed after a joint survey by the railways & municipal authorities. The OHE on girder bridges and also the earth resistance of these OHE Mast have been thoroughly checked & completed. Further, in order to minimize point & signal failures due to rains, Railways carried out all necessary repairs & replacement of various signalling gears & equipment with insulation testing well before the onset of the monsoons for smooth train operations even during incessant rains.
