Tamil Nadu assembly session begins at the Kalaivanar Arangam at 10 a.m.

The first session of the 16th Legislative Assembly began today at the Kalaivanar Arangam. The assembly commenced its proceedings with the address of Governor Banwarilal Purohit. Governor Banwarilal Purohit begins the session by saying, "Tamil is a very sweet language."
11:20 am: Preference in jobs to Tamil Medium and Government School passed outs. Working Women's hostel will be formed in all districts.
11:00 am: New PDS Smart cards will be issued to the eligible applicants within 15 days
10: 48 am: Smart cities with latest facilities will be developed near all metro cities in the State
10:45 am: State will urge central govt to constitute a national commission for the welfare of fishermen.
10: 40 am: Feasibility studies for Mass Rapid Transit Systems for Madurai, Tiruchirapalli, Salem and Tirunelveli will be taken up.
10: 35 am: State to introduce a separate annual budget for agriculture with the objective of increasing agricultural productivity and protecting farmers welfare.
10:32am: State to introduce a new legislation to regulate ground water use to protect the interests of farmers' and common people dependent on ground water.
10: 25 am: The Governor said that the State might allot Rs 50 cr from CMPRF for augmenting the supply of liquid medical oxygen to govt hospitals.
Earlier it was said that all the legislators and assembly officials will have to undertake a Covid-19 test and only those who are negative will be allowed to attend the session, the Speaker said.
The Speaker's office had also said that the question-answer session is unlikely to take place.
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin also called on the Governor on Wednesday to discuss the proceedings of the house before the session.
