N Banerjee, ED, RDCIS led from the front in successfully development and commercializing a special quality wire rod grade for Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding electrodes. This steel is the highest NSR yielding steel grade in the long products wire segment. He acknowledged the unflinching support and encouragement provided by AV Kamlakar, CEO, SAIL-ISP along with AK Singh, ED (Works), and S. Basu, ED (MM), SAIL-ISP and thanked the entire team for their contributions.

MIG wire is used in Gas Metal Arc Welding along with a shielding gas. These copper coated special quality welding electrodes are used for continuous welding in automotive industry as well other critical fabrication work which requires the highest quality standards. The wire rods are produced in accordance with the standards of American Welding Society and call for the highest level of steel cleanliness and low gaseous content (particularly Nitrogen). The steel was produced using special quality ferro-alloys with stringent quality checks and rolled into 5.5 mm at ISP's modern Wire Rod Mill under controlled rolling conditions to achieve the desired properties.

The material has been successfully converted to MIG electrode wires at one of the leading manufacturers of MIG electrodes in eastern India and has passed all the extensive tests as per the industry norms. With this breakthrough, SAIL has geared itself to regularly cater to this niche market and be a leader in the industry segment
