Expansion of airports can grow tourism in Maharashtra

Historical monuments under the authority of the Archaeological Survey of India reopened a few days back after being shut for two months with the state government relaxing corona virus-induced restrictions.

The tourism potential of Aurangabad, which is famous for the world famous Ajanta and Ellora caves and other monuments, can be developed greatly if the airport here is expanded to let in international flights.

A separate authority is also needed to work for the development of tourism in Maharashtra.

Sunit Kothari, member of the Aurangabad Tourism Development Foundation’s (ATDF) aviation committee, has urged for the expansion of the city airport and approval for international flights to land in Aurangabad for boosting the tourism industry. This will assist in growing the overall economy of Aurangabad and neighboring districts in the Marathwada region.

The Maharashtra government also needs to reduce the Value Added Tax (VAT) on aviation turbine fuel to attract more flights, said Mr. Kothari. He also said that the birth place of Sant Dnyaneshwar, a bird sanctuary located in Jayakwadi, and a wildlife sanctuary in Gautala area also need to be promoted among visitors.
