CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu governor Banwarilal Purohit on Monday exhorted people to lead a simple life.
Purohit was addressing the first session of the legislative assembly after the DMK government took charge.
Commencing his speech in Tamil, Purohit said, “Kaalai vannakkam. Elimaiyana vazhkkai vazhungal. That is for all. Ithu irullai agatrividum. Ithu enathu seithi (Good morning. Lead a simple life. It will remove darkness. This is my message).”
He went on to add that Tamil was a beautiful language.
Later, the governor prompted the members to thump desks when he read out the line, “providing clean administration was the highest priority (of the government).” He appreciated the government’s intention and wondered why the members were silent.
