Three killed, 2 hurt in fire cracker unit explosion

Sivakasi, June 21 (UNI) Three people were charred to
death and two others sustained injuries in a explosion
at an illegal cracker manufacturing unit in the southern
Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu today.
Police sources said a five-year-old boy was among those
who perished in the blast that took place at Kalaignar
colony near Thayilpatti village near Sattur.
The victims were engaged in making of crackers when the
explosion occurred due to friction, while handling the
chemicals.
The deceased were identified as Selvamani (35), her son,
and another person, Karpagam (35).
Two others, who were injured were admitted to Sivakasi
government hospital.
Four houses and the cracker manufacturing unit, where
the explosion took place, were completely gutted.
Fire fighting tenders rushed to the spot and put out the
blaze and shifted the injured to the hospital.
