WTC Final live: IND vs NZ live – What is reserve day?

Gone are those days when Test matches were played over six days. In fast-paced modern cricket, every extra day is a luxury. But ICC probably had anticipated England’s weather and put in place a reserve day like any final of an ICC event.

RESERVE DAY: To begin with, the reserve day or Day 6 of the match will come into the picture if hours are lost on the first five days of the match due to bad light or bad weather. However, the slow-over rate will not be made up in the reserve day.

“The Reserve Day has been scheduled to ensure five full days of play, and it will only be used if lost playing time cannot be recovered through the normal provisions of making up lost time each day. There will be no additional day’s play if a positive result is not achieved after five full days of play and the match will be declared a draw in such a scenario,” the ICC release on the playing conditions read.
