Indore: Mhow to be first city with 100% smart metering system
Mhow is set to become the state’s first city to have cent per cent electricity connections equipped with smart meters.
Madhya Pradesh Paschim Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company Limited (MPPKVVCL) officials claimed to have already equipped over 90 % of the electricity connections of Mhow town with smart meters. These hi-tech smart meters work on radio frequency and allow Discom to collect meter readings of the consumers remotely.
Discom’s superintendent engineer (rural) DN Sharma said that out of 14,500 electricity connections in Mhow town, conventional electricity meters of over 12,500 connections have already been replaced with smart meters.
“We are installing smart meters in at least 140 to 150 connections on a daily basis, and aim to cover all 14,500 connections before the end of this month,” said Sharma.
Of 14,500 electricity connections in Mhow town which falls under Indore’s rural circle of Discom, 11,500 connections are domestic or residential, and 2,400 are non-domestic or commercial.
