NAVI MUMBAI: Acting on a complaint by the medical officer of Panvel Municipal Corporation against a fake doctor working at a private hospital in Kharghar, the Kharghar police has on Saturday arrested the accused Rohit Yadav (27), a resident of Koparkhairane.
Senior inspector Shatrughna Mali of Kharghar police station informed that the accused Rohit Yadav had been working as Resident Medical Officer (RMO) at Kharghar Multi-speciality hospital in sector 15, Kharghar, where he was treating patients by prescribing medicines.
"Acting on a tip off, we trapped Yadav on Saturday around 12.15 am, as he was in night duty. We had sent a decoy patient Vikas Tirgul along with a police witness Sharad Singh. Tirgul pretended to be suffering from stomach ache and met Yadav in the casualty room. Yadav diagnosed Tirgul and told he needed to get admitted in hospital and handed over a prescription of injections to Sharad Singh, to be brought from medical store. Tirgul alerted the civic medical team waiting outside the hospital and they entered the casualty room. The medical officer Dr Bhaktaraj Bhoite questioned Yadav about the treatment he was giving to the patient Tirgul and found that Yadav had prescribed him three injections. Dr Bhoite told Yadav to show his valid medical qualification certificate from medical council of India. But, Yadav replied that he did not have it. Dr Bboite inquired with the hospital's nursing staff and patients and found that Yadav had prescribed medicines to five patients admitted at the hospital. Hence, we detained Yadav and escorted him to Kharghar police station."
He said, "Further inquiry revealed that in 2019, Yadav was arrested by Shivaji Nagar police after he was found running a clinic in the slum area and was treating patients without a valid doctor's degree certificate from medical council of India . He was then booked under section 420, 315, 511 and 34 of the IPC along with Section 33 and 36 of Maharashtra Medical Practitioners Act, 1961. Then, Yadav was released on bail. Thereafter, Yadav continued to indulge in the criminal act of posing as doctor and treating patients at Kharghar Multi-speciality hospital, where he had joined as RMO about two months ago. Hence, we have booked Yadav for cheating and attempt to commit offence under Sections 420 and 511 of the IPC respectively along with Section 33 of Maharashtra Medical Practitioners Act, 1961 for Prohibition of Medical Practice by persons not registered and thus causing risk to life of patients by treating them by prescribing injections without doctor's qualification despite knowing that he was released on bail after indulging in a criminal act. Yadav has been remanded in police custody till June 22."
