Home guard comes to rescue of stranded woman in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Basic knowledge of two wheeler repair came handy for a home guard in helping a woman whose two-wheeler developed a snag on Saturday night at Mirchowk road in the old city.

The woman, a resident of Uppuguda, was going on a TVS XL when the vehicle stopped midway near Darulshifa road around 10 pm.

The home guard Shaik Asifuddin working as patrol car driver with Mirchowk police station noticed the woman stranded on the deserted road. “I got down from the patrol car and went to her. She explained the problem to me. I first thought the vehicle might have run out of fuel and took some petrol from a passer-by and poured it in the tank,” recalled Asifuddin. However that did not help.

After trying for some more time, the home guard got tools from the vehicle kept at the police station and then checked the battery and spark plug. “I found the wire connecting the spark plug was damaged and repaired it,” he said.

Asifuddin said the woman was in a hurry to reach home and was making frantic phone calls to her relatives expecting some help. “When I reached her she was confident that her problem will now be resolved. I learnt one thing from the experience, people have immense trust and hope in a police uniform,” he said.
