Cubs designate RHP Robert Stock for assignment

The Chicago Cubs designated right-hander Robert Stock for assignment on Sunday.

The Cubs also purchased the contract of left-hander Kyle Ryan from Triple-A Iowa and sent right-hander Cory Abbott back down to Iowa on Sunday in a corresponding move.

Stock, 31, took the loss in his first major league start on Wednesday, when he allowed five runs and six walks in four innings. In 53 career appearances with the San Diego Padres (2018-19), Boston Red Sox (2020) and Cubs, Stock is 2-3 with a 4.66 ERA.

Ryan, 29, was designated for assignment by the Cubs in May, but stayed in the organization. In three appearances with Chicago this season, Ryan has a 3.38 ERA.

Abbott, 25, has a 4.32 ERA in four appearances for the Cubs this season.
