CHENNAI: A special team of the Chennai city police arrested former AIADMK minister M Manikandan from Bengaluru on Sunday morning for cheating an actress by having a relationship with her for three years on the false promise of marriage. The team arrested Manikandan three days after the Madras high court dismissed his anticipatory bail petition. After the anticipatory bail plea was dismissed, Manikandan went absconding. The special team that had been searching for him in Madurai and Ramanathapuram finally nabbed him from his hideout in Bengaluru. He will be brought to Chennai. The former IT minister was booked two weeks ago by the Adyar all-woman police based on a complaint by the actress. The police booked him under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for rape, causing miscarriage and cheating. The actress alleged that she met Manikandan in 2017 when he was a minister and got close to him after the latter promised to do business with her in Malaysia. She alleged that he had tortured her and forced to abort her pregnancy.
