A frantic rescue mission ended in tragedy after a lone boatie was found dead near his sunken boat.
The 54-year-old man activated his emergency position indicating radio beacon just after 6.30am on Sunday, near Bernier Island in Shark Bay, Western Australia.
Search and rescue teams rushed to the man's last known location, where they found him dead in the water near his vessel.

He is believed to have been the only person on the boat. Police are treating his death as non-suspicious.
Strong westerly winds, reaching up 20km/h were recorded off the coast of Shark Bay by the Bureau of Meteorology on Sunday.
The search mission involved police, local marine rescue, and the Australian National Sportsfishing Association.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
