JORHAT: A tiger was killed in accidental firing of a forest guard in the Kohora range of Kaziranga National Park on Friday. This is the second tiger death in the same forest range in Kaziranga within this month and the third since January this year. Park director P Shivakumar said, "A carcass of a tiger was found near Japori Pathar in the Kuruabahi area at 7.10am on Friday. Three forest staffers - Dinonath Phukan, Jubraj Kutum and Amush Harrah - of Bheroni anti-poaching camp detected the carcass. On enquiry, it was found that the tiger died due to a bullet wound sustained in an accidental firing." "It was a male tiger of about 10 years old. The incident happened when the staff were searching for the tiger in nearby areas and resorted to firing to scare away the big cat," added divisional forest officer (Kaziranga) Ramesh Gogoi. Veterinarians have conducted the autopsy and buried the carcass near the Maloni anti- poaching camp in presence of the representative of National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), research officers, media representatives and park officials. Park authorities have ordered a probe into the incident and formed an one-man enquiry committee to conduct the enquiry.
