The Police in Kabale district have mounted investigations to establish how a gun that was stolen on slain SWATT services guard in Kisoro district was discovered in a tree plantation in Kabale.
Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Elly Maate said the gun was recovered by a man who was in his garden digging in Kibikura cell, lower bugongi ward, Northern division in Kabale district.
“A gun was found by a man who was digging in his tree plantation and informed Police, ” Maate said in a statement.
The Police then visited the scene and found out that it was the same gun which was stolen from Kisoro on the 6th June where a SWATT Security personnel, resident of Kanyabukungu Village, Gisorora Parish in Nyakabande Subcounty was found murdered by unknown killers at his beat (Chuho water pumping station) in Kisoro Municipality.
The deceased had been officially deployed on duty on 5th June 2021 at around 6Pm armed with riffle number SAR UGPS09069985-08751 with three live ammunitions to guard the said beat.
Upon recovery, two ammunitions were found and the thugs could have left Kisoro and left for Kabale to use the same gun for robbing people since the riffle was found hidden in the soil but not for many days.
Maate adds that inquiries are already at hand to establish which people could have put this gun and their motive.
The case of report/recovery of a gun has since been registered at Kabale Central station under reference number SD 21/18/06/2021.
