Mishra Wanted a Fast-Bowling Allrounder in India Squad: “The playing XI looks great. We have Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, two excellent spinners who can also contribute with the bat. Ashwin and Jadeja’s batting skills will help India a lot. I think India could have named a fast-bowling all-rounder in the playing XI, someone who could have bowled six-seven overs when the regular pacers are tired and the ball is swinging,” Amit Mishra said.

Oh well, let's hope the rain stays away.

Gavaskar advices playing an extra batter:  Batting legend Sunil Gavaskar thinks that the conditions may force India to rethink their Playing 11, "I feel like maybe they'll think of playing another batsman because of the weather. Because these conditions are suitable for New Zealand fast bowlers so Rishabh Pant is at six, he might shift to seven and an extra batsman might play. Seeing this weather, one spinner might be dropped," Gavaskar told Aaj Tak. Read full story here.

Southampton Weather Live Updates, India vs New Zealand, Day 2, June 19: Kiwis Look to Make Use of Overcast Conditions

Southampton Weather Day 2 Live Updates, India vs New Zealand: Team India after losing the toss start decently in overcast conditions. But after a good little knock, Rohit Sharma is out for 34 as India are 62/1.

There is some good news in the morning from Southampton, It’s bright and sunny.  after the opening day was a bummer. It rained for the majority of the day and then conditions weren’t deemed fit enough for even a toss, let alone a delivery to be bowled. The good thing is we have an extra day but the bad news is the forecast for today isn’t promising either. England and rain? Shocking.

Day 1 at a glance

The eagerly-awaited opening day of the World Test Championship final between India and New Zealand was rained out here on Friday, which is set to bring the reserve day into the equation. As per ICC playing conditions guidelines for the WTC final, if required the reserve sixth day can now come into effect with six hours of play lost on Day 1 itself. There was forecast of rain and thundershowers and the heavens opened up last evening with relentless downpour continuing till afternoon. With puddles forming throughout the outfield, even the best drainage system couldn’t have possibly forced some action on the opening day.

Umpires Michael Gough and Richard Illingworth, after multiple inspections, called off the game at 7:30 pm IST (3 pm local time). While there has been talk about Southampton being the preferred venue, it has been learnt that BCCI was taken into confidence by both the ICC and England and Wales Cricket Board before they finalised the venue which also has a five-star facility within the premises, helping create a tight bio-secure bubble. The English weather is known to be fickle and in any case, there was no guarantee that the match being played at any other venue would have not led to a wash-out on the first day. In the last five years, England has hosted 32 men’s Test matches and only as many as four have ended in draws which is an indication that even if rain plays spoilsport, the final will go the distance.
