Sangrur, June 18
Unemployed members of various unions today sat in front of all three gates of the PWD rest house in Sangrur, where state Education and PWD Minister Vijay Inder Singla had to meet party workers.
They raised slogans against the Punjab Government and demanded government jobs.
“We have been protesting as the government has failed to fulfil its promise of ‘Ghar Ghar Rozgar’. We have completed our studies with hard work, but even after many years of passing out, we are yet to get jobs,” said Sukhwinder Dhilwan, president of the BEd and TET Pass Union, while protesting at the main gate of the rest house.
Today, when the members came to know about the arrival of Singla at the rest house, they blocked three gates. Though initially the police tried to remove them, the protesters refused to relent.
“The cops tried to remove us forcibly, but when we resisted, they allowed us to sit at the main gate. We have been staging an indefinite protest in front of the DC office since January 4. The state government is not listening to us,” said Deepak Kamboj, president of the ETT and TET Pass Union.
However, Singla outsmarted the protesters as he reached the DC office after leaving the rest house through the rear gate. His gunmen and vehicle were inside the house.
