The Haryana state government will make a policy to produce electric vehicles and convert vehicle engines from internal combustion to battery-powered, said Dushyant Chautala, Deputy Chief Minister, Haryana. The state government will invite suggestions post consultations with vehicle manufacturers and industry experts. Dushyant Chautala, In- charge, Industries and Commerce Department, gave the necessary guidelines regarding policy formulation and said that the policy will promote eco-friendly electric vehicles (EVs) instead of those running on fossil fuels to curb pollution.

Besides purchase of new EVs, the policy will also focus on replacing the existing vehicles with electric vehicles. The work will be completed in a phased manner. To ensure that the adoption of electric vehicles is smoother, the state will also focus on building charging infrastructure.

Chautala added that charging stations will be set up in every city as well as on main roads.

Charging stations will also be built at government offices as well as at private sites. The state government will emphasise on creating vehicle charging infrastructure in all new apartments, high rise buildings and technology parks of the city. As a first step, a charging station has already been inaugurated in the state in Panchkula.

The state will encourage the market for the disposal of electric vehicles batteries, clean fuel and renewable energy-based charging or battery swapping stations.
