Big McKay miss
A golden opportunity for Carlton to really put the pressure on GWS goes begging early in the final term with McKay missing a straightforward set shot from directly in front after taking a beautiful, towering mark. It’s the Giants by 17 points, 11.4.70 to 7.11.53.

A steadying late goal from Finlayson extends the Giants’ lead back out to 18 points at the final change. But the Blues have come from the clouds to ensure this game is a contest heading into the last quarter.
However, the Giants are still dominating the tackle count 58-42 while holding a comfortable lead in disposals 270-245, which really sums up Carlton’s overall performance tonight.
GWS are also have a decent cushion in clearances 31-22 and marks 102-71 and have the edge in inside 50s 41-38.
Here come the Blues
Where has this been all night? The Blues have kicked four goals in a row, including a pair to McKay, to cut the deficit to just 12 points with 3:38 left in the third quarter, 7.10.52 to 10.4.64.
Owies is the Blues’ other multiple goalkicker with two. All of a sudden, there’s some life being shown by the visitors. Nervous times ahead for the Giants!
GWS in cruise control
The Giants have now kicked the last five goals of the game and this contest is as good as done with 7:00 left in the third term, 10.4.64 to 3.9.27.

Regular transmission resumes
The third quarter has started with GWS taking the first 12 marks, and Finlayson’s third major has extended the hosts’ lead to 35 points, 9.4.58 to 3.5.23. Carlton have been incredibly disappointing tonight, and perhaps the spectre of the external review of the club is hanging heavy?
De Boer (10) and Taranto (7) have 17 tackles between them – Carlton have laid 23 in total.
Uni student takes massive hanger
By Roy Ward
Shai Bolton, Jack Riewoldt and Liam Ryan have pulled in some stunning marks so far this season, but a university student turned VFL player took a mark on Friday night that could easily sit alongside those of the AFL’s high flyers. Click here to see the huge grab and read the full story.

After briefly showing some fight at the start of the second term, the Blues resistence fell away again as GWS helped themselves to the last three goals of the game.
Perhaps the biggest indictment on Carlton is that they are trailing the disposals convincingly 156-194 while also being out-tackled 20-45. It’s bordering on embarrassing.
The Giants are also dominating the clearances 23-12, marks 63-43, inside 50s 30-22 and scroing shots 12-7, while also on top in contested possessions 69-66 and free kicks 11-10.
Ill-discipline was also starting to creep into Carlton’s with Cripps and McKay giving away a pair of silly 50-metre penalties late in the quarter.
