Condemnation on sexual assault of two minor girls

Strong condemnation on sexual assault of two minor girls at Nagampal and Moreh in June.

Women Action for Development (WAD) strongly condemn the brutality committed towards the minor girl at Moreh and Nagamapal wherein two minor girls were sexually assaulted by two men.

With regard to the incident, Moreh Police Personnel were able to arrest one Mr. M Touthan of Moreh Ward No II and on the other hand the Imphal Police Personnel were able to arrested Mr. Rupesh Kumar Singh for commissioning of such heinous crime against children.

WAD highly appreciate the action of both the police personnel of Moreh Police Station and Imphal Police Station for arresting the culprits without further delay so as due procedures of law could be assured in the best interest of the public.

At the same time we also appreciate the Doctors for providing medical assistance to the victims at this critical juncture of Covid-19 pandemic and also for reporting the matter to the concern PS providing the necessary evidences to take legal action against the culprits.

Lastly we would like to appeal the District Child Protection Units and Child Welfare Committees and the Department of Social Welfare to release the interim compensation as mandated in POCSO, Act 2012 for the victims so as to ensure proper medical attention and other requirement.

It is also important to remind the DCPUs and CWCs to provide multiple counselling to both the victims and their family members until the justice is served and also appeal the concern Hon’ble Courts to convict the culprits at the earliest.
