Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor on Saturday took a dig at the Narendra Modi led Central government over the high level of Indian funds parked in foreign banks. Taking to Twitter with screengrabs from earlier news articles, the Congress leader took a swipe at the Prime Minister over his earlier poll promises.
In recent days, Indian funds stashed in Swiss bank accounts have become a talking point online, with many outraged by the fact that the amount in question had now jumped to a 13 year high. Funds parked by Indian individuals and firms in Swiss banks jumped to more than Rs 20,700 crore in 2020, reversing a two-year declining trend.
"What happens when you learn your economics from a yoga teacher!" Tharoor quipped, sharing a 2013 article wherein the Prime Minister can be seen assuring that the administration would get money back from Swiss banks. He juxtaposed this with a news clipping of the recent update.
