Receiving 841mm rainfall in 18 days, Mumbai has already recorded its third wettest June in a decade. In June 2015, Mumbai got 1,106mm— highest ever recorded—while in 2013, it was 1,029mm. Pune on Friday received its highest 12-hour rainfall this monsoon season so far with 29.2mm in Shivajinagar and 31.6mm in Lohegaon from 8.30am-8.30pm. The Kolkata traffic police faced a double trouble on Friday. While important arterial roads in south Kolkata continued to remain waterlogged, throwing traffic out of gear, people desperate to restore economic activities led to slow movement and even congestions in several crossings of the city. Residents in the low-lying areas of Kolkata like Behala and neighbourhoods located off Eastern Metropolitan Bypass continued to suffer from inundation as storm water from these pockets couldn’t be drained out even after 72 hours.
