’I want to be in Port Huron’: Medical spa plans to open in downtown this summer

Shadilea Crawford never would have guessed that one day she would be able to do what she loves in downtown Port Huron.
She’s been operating her medical spa Crawford Cosmetics in a salon rental space in Clinton Township, but after buying a storefront at 331 Huron Ave. in February she now hopes to open the business in her hometown this July.
“I want to be in Port Huron,” she said.
Crawford started the business in 2019. She said a medical spa doesn’t offer facials or massages, but rather will offer anti-aging injections and chemical peels.
She said besides preserving and helping people look and feel young, she helps people get their confidence back.
“Who wouldn’t want to look 10 years younger?,” she asked.
She and her husband moved to Port Huron from Royal Oak last June and she was able to move her business to Clinton Township. But after driving 45 minutes to work for a year, she knew there was no way she could keep doing it and started looking for somewhere even closer to home.
“I’ve always wanted to come back to Port Huron anyways,” Crawford said.
She bought the Huron Avenue space for $160,000 and said the estimated buildout was over $90,000. She's remodeling the space to create four exam rooms, office space and break rooms.
Crawford said the business will have a skin care store and a waiting area, but she will also leave a big space unfinished so she can decide what to make it after the business is established.
She is looking for office assistants and people can send applications to her manager Missy Feher at missyfeher@crawfordcosmetics.com.
Crawford Cosmetics will be open four days a week and open one weekend a month, but hours will alternate depending on the month. The skin care store’s hours have yet to be determined, as she’s not sure how busy traffic will be.
Cynthia Cutright, Port Huron Downtown Development Authority director, said the new medical spa going next to Elite Feet will stand out and she thinks it’s different enough from other area spas that they could work together to bring more people to the area.
“That’s not something we’ve seen before in downtown,” she said.

With Crawford moving her already functioning business to downtown, Cutright hopes this will potentially bring her already existing clients to the area. They will be able to visit the city, see what this place an hour away but “a world away” has to offer, she said.
Crawford said she wants to make her business “the spot to go” and make it an “Instagram-worthy space.”
She’s excited to bring her clientele to a downtown that’s growing and thriving and said it’s a fun area for them to spend the day. She’s trying to promote spending the day in Port Huron, going to downtown restaurants and stores, she said.
Crawford is also looking forward to meeting more people in the community and growing her clientele in this area.
“I’m so excited honestly,” she said.
