Pharmaceutical major Zydus is likely to apply for emergency use authorisation (EUA) for its Covid vaccine — ZyCoV-D — in the next seven-eight days, news agency ANI reported on Friday. According to the report, the pharma company has informed the Centre that it could apply for emergency use nod for its vaccine in a week.
A decision on further relaxing lockdown restrictions in the state after 21 June when the current curbs come to an end, will be taken on Saturday,
Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said "The situation is improving. There is also a possibility of a third wave in the future, but despite that we will have to give some relaxations. We will discuss it at a meeting tomorrow evening, and take a decision," Yediyurappa told reporters on Friday.

The Tripura government has extended the COVID curfew from 2 pm to 5 am in Agartala and 11 other urban local bodies (ULBs) till 25 June, a notification said. However, night curfew from 6 pm to 5 am has been lifted from the villages.
In its announcement of the extension of the COVID-19 curfew in the state, the Andhra Pradesh government said all shops and business establishments will have to be shut by 5 pm every day.
In the East Godavari district, which has still been reporting a higher number of COVID-19 cases, the curfew will be in force from 2 pm to 6 am. Government offices will function normally from 21 June and staff have been directed to attend work as per the revised schedule.
The Andhra Pradesh government extended the COVID-19 curfew in the state till 30 June. It also announced a four-hour additional relaxation in timings.
Accordingly, curfew will be in force from 6 pm to 6 am daily from 21 June, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said. The curfew, first imposed on 5 May this year, has so far been extended in phases till 30 June.
More than half a crore people in Maharashtra have become fully vaccinated against coronavirus over the last five months as they have been administered both the doses of vaccines, a report by the state health department has revealed. A total of 53,72,219 people have got both the doses till now, it said.
As per the Election Commission of India's data shared ahead of 2019 Assembly polls, there are a total of nine crore people in Maharashtra who are above 18 years of age. Considering that, the state has been able to vaccinate slightly over five per cent population in the last five months.
Launching a training programme for COVID-19 frontline workers, Narendra Modi also urged the people to remain cautious, stressing that the virus is "still amongst us" and the possibility of it mutating is also there.
He also said the Centre is committed to provide Covid vaccination free to everyone, starting June 21. "In the second wave of coronavirus , we saw what kind of challenges the ever-changing form of this virus can bring before us," Modi said.
"We have to further enhance the preparedness of the country to meet the challenges ahead," he asserted.
The daily positivity rate was recorded 3.24 percent on Friday morning. It has been less than 5 percent for 11 consecutive days, the Union Health Ministry said, adding the weekly positivity rate has declined to 3.80 percent.
Recoveries continue to outnumber daily new cases for the 36th consecutive day. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 2,85,80,647, while the case fatality rate stands at 1.29 percent, the data stated. Cumulatively, 26,89,60,399 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered so far under Nationwide Vaccination Drive.
The active cases have fallen below 8 lakh after 73 days and the national COVID-19 recovery rate has crossed 96 percent.
The active cases have declined to 7,98,656, comprising 2.68 percent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has improved to 96.03 percent, the data updated at 8 am showed.
India on Friday reported 62,480 new COVID-19 cases, 88,977 recoveries and 1,587 deaths in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said.
The total caseload rose to 2,97,62,793.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch a customised crash course programme for COVID-19 frontline workers on Friday through video conferencing, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said. The launch will commence the programme in 111 training centres spread over 26 states.
The launch will be followed by Modi's address. the Union Minister of skill development and entrepreneurship will also be present on the occasion. The programme aims to skill and upskill over one lakh "Covid warriors" across the country, the PMO added.
A study by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi and the World Health Organization (WHO) on Thursday revealed that the third wave of the coronavirus pandemic is not more likely to disproportionately affect children than adults. This comes as several states ramp up their infrastructure to prepare for the third wave with a special focus on protecting children.
The SARS-CoV-2 seropositivity rate among children was just as high as compared to the adult population in an interim study that involved 4,509 participants from five locations in four states.
Seropositivity is a percentage estimate of the number of people with antibodies towards the coronavirus and hence a past infection.
Maharashtra on Thursday reported 9,830 fresh COVID-19 cases and 236 fatalities and also added 400 old deaths, taking its infection tally to 59,44,710 and the toll to 1,16,026, said the state health department.
Apart from the 236 new deaths, the state added 400 previously unreported fatalities to the toll as part of an ongoing reconciliation exercise, the department said.
Out of the 236 deaths, 167 occurred in the last 48 hours and 69 during the last week, it said.
With 5,890 people getting discharged from hospitals during the day, the count of recovered patients rose to 56,85,636, leaving the state with 1,39,960 active cases, the department said.
There are 8,50,663 patients in home quarantine, while 4,964 are in institutional quarantine, the department said. The state's COVID-19 recovery rate is 95.64 per cent, while the case fatality rate is 1.95 per cent, it said.
With 2,16,005 more tests, the state so far has carried out 3,88,57,644 COVID-19 tests, the department said. Mumbai city reported 660 new infections and 20 fatalities, taking its tally to 7,17,832 and the toll to 15,247.
The wider Mumbai division, that comprises the city and its satellite towns, added 2,174 COVID-19 cases and 58 deaths. The division's case tally increased to 15,69,464 and the death toll to 31,060. Out of the 58 deaths, 15 were reported from rural parts of Thane district and 14 from Palghar, the department said.
The Nashik division added 966 cases and 36 deaths, of which 11 fatalities were from rural parts of Ahmednagar district. The Pune division's case tally went up by 2,417 cases and deaths by 53, of which 33 were from Satara alone, the department said.
The Kolhapur division's COVID-19 caseload increased by 3,192 cases and the deaths by 65. Kolhapur district alone added 25 deaths to the division's fatality count.
The Aurangabad division reported 169 cases and two deaths, while the Akola division registered 311 cases and four more deaths, the department said. The Nagpur division added 216 cases and four deaths, it added.
