BHUBANESWAR: Despite holding several meetings, the 14-member expert committee formed to decide the alternative assessment of higher secondary (Class XII) marks is yet to decide on the final scheme of things or assessment.
The fourth meeting was scheduled on Thursday. The committee is struggling because students have not been assessed after Class X.
“Since no other marks are available with the expert committee to work on any assessment scheme, the Class X marks will play a very vital role in calculating the marks for Class XII. The committee is working on the assessment scheme,” said Tushar Kanti Tripathy, vice-chairman of the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE).
The committee had to submit its report on the final assessment scheme within 10 days of its formation, by June 15. National school boards like CBSE and CISCE declared their alternative assessment schemes for calculation of Class XII marks in the absence of board exams on Thursday putting pressure on the state council to finalise its own. “When the state government announced the cancellation of Class XII examination, they must be ready with an alternative assessment scheme. Now even after 10 days, the committee is indecisive,” said academician Kamala Prasad Mohapatra.
The future and careers of around four lakh Class XII students registered for the annual higher secondary examinations depends on the alternative assessment scheme of the government for admission into higher education.
