Save the Saviours: Doctors outside Gandhi Medical College in Bhopal on Friday

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): In response to call given by Indian Medical Association (IMA), doctors including junior doctors staged protest on Friday against assault on doctors, with slogan, Save the Saviours. IMA observed Doctors’ Protection Day.

The apex medical body had asked all its state and local branches across the country to stage protest by wearing black badges, masks, ribbons, shirts and running awareness campaign against violence targeting healthcare professionals.

Doctors said it is "extremely disturbing" to see series of violent attacks on doctors in last two weeks in Assam, Bihar, West Bengal, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and other places.

They demanded implementation of Health Care Professionals Protection Act with IPC and Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), standardisation and augmentation of security in each hospital, and declaring hospitals as protected zones among others.

Junior Doctors Association (JUDA) president Dr Arvind Mina said, “ We protested to support IMA call for safety of doctors who are working in pandemic time in different states.”
