New Delhi/Bhopal/Indore: Conditions have turned favourable for the south-west monsoon to advance into more parts of Gujarat and south Rajasthan in 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department said. The monsoon current is also likely to progress into remaining parts of Madhya Pradesh and west Uttar Pradesh during the same period, it said.
On Friday, monsoon covered more parts of north Arabian Sea, most parts of Gujarat, and some parts of Saurashtra region and south-east Rajasthan, the weather bureau said. Isolated places in east Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand are likely to get heavy-to-very heavy rainfall today, it said.
Also, rainfall over east Uttar Pradesh is likely to continue for two-three days because of a cyclonic circulation over the region, the department said. The change in weather conditions in Uttarakhand is likely to be influenced by a western disturbance running from north Jammu and Kashmir to northeast Arabian Sea, the IMD said.
The weather agency said thunderstorm, along with lightning, is expected over Bihar, Jharkhand, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim today, as well as over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Chandigarh.
Winds at 45-55 km per hour are expected over central and southwest Arabian Sea today, and fishermen are advised against venturing into sea along these areas, it said. However, conditions for advancement of monsoon into Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, and remaining parts of Punjab are still not favourable, it said.
