Railways carries out extensive cleaning of culverts & drains over Mumbai Suburban Network

Railways is committed to provide convenient & smooth travel for its commuters during the ongoing monsoon season. In order to keep the wheels of trains running during the monsoon, several monsoon preparatory works have been undertaken over Mumbai suburban network. The monsoon preparation works included cleaning and de-silting of culverts, de-silting of side-drains, construction of additional waterways through micro – tunneling, RCC box insertions, special maintenance of infrastructure, etc.

Alok Kansal – General Manager of Western & Central Railway stated that our mission is to minimize the interruption of suburban services even during heavy rainfall coupled with high tide, which results in flooding & inundation in certain parts of the city areas including railway tracks. He further emphasized that it is the endeavour of Railways to ensure smooth & hassle free service to the commuters.
