J&K: Locals in Darsoo village, Udhampur say they're forced to fetch contaminated drinking water from a pond as village faces acute water crisis. A local, Rasaal Singh says, "I'm 66; seeing this for last 40 yrs. Water tanker comes once a week. Even animals drink water from here."

"We send our children early morning to fetch water. There is a water tank, but there are no pipes or taps in our homes. We request Govt to make arrangement at the earliest & install taps at our homes so that we don't have to live on this contaminated water," said Sukhdev Singh, a local.

Meanwhile Sandeep Gupta, Asst Executive Engineer, Jal Shakti (PHE), Udhampur said, "I think there are 450 households there & we've covered 120-125 of them under distribution system. Rest of the houses are provided water via water tankers once a week. We have a scheme, it'll be implemented soon."
