Premium scooters are becoming popular in the market. Manufacturers like Hero, Honda and Yamaha have their models in this segment. Japanese two wheel manufacturer Yamaha also has couple of models in this category. Last year, they had launched two 125 cc automatic scooters in the market. One was Ray ZR 125 and the other was Fascino 125. Now in 2021, Yamaha has unveiled a new version of the Fascino 125 automatic scooter. The Fascino 125 scooter is now offered with a Hybrid engine. Fascino 125 is the first automatic scooter in the country to get this technology. The Fascino 125 rivals the likes of the Honda Activa 125, Honda Grazia, Suzuki Access 125 and other 125cc automatic scooters sold in India. The Fascino 125 is likely to be slightly pricier than the Honda Activa 125.
Fascino 125 was already an elegant looking 125 scooter. It is considered as a stylish and fashionable scooter in the segment. The Hybrid System that is now being offered with the Fascino 125 is actually a power assist system that helps the scooter at lower RPMs. It has a Smart Motor Generator or SMG that acts as an electric motor to provide power assistance, when the vehicle is accelerates from a stop. This system will help reducing the lag or wobbly effect that is normally experience during start-outs. This system is also helpful while riding the scooter in a uphill section. The Hybrid system automatically engages at lower RPMs and the same gets disengaged after the it picks up speed and crosses the prescribed RPM. An indicator on the instrument cluster also shows whether the Hybrid system is engaged or not.
The Smart Motor Generator also helps by reversing the direction of electricity which helps in Quiet Engine Start System and Automatic Stop & Start System. Fascino 125 Hybrid now comes with new set of features. It gets a fully digital instrument cluster which is similar to what we have seen in the Ray ZR 125. There two versions of Fascino 125 available. There is a version with disc brake and there is one without disc.
The disc brake version gets features like LED DRLs, LED headlamps and tail lamps and also Yamaha’s Bluetooth connectivity feature Connect X app is also available. The new Fascino 125 Fi Hybrid continues to be powered by a BS-VI compliant, air-cooled, fuel-injected (Fi), 125 cc blue core engine that produces a power output of 8.2 PS @ 6,500rpm and maximum torque of 10.3 N m @ 5,000rpm. During the launch, Chairman of Yamaha Motor India also mentioned that the same Hybrid technology will also be introduced in the Ray ZR 125 scooter as well.
Mr. Motofumi Shitara, Chairman, Yamaha Motor India group of companies said, “Under the umbrella of “The Call of the Blue”, Yamaha has introduced several exciting products with unique features in India. The all new Fascino 125 Fi Hybrid applies electric power assist for the first time in our two-wheelers in the Indian market. We are sure that the new Fascino 125 Fi will provide a rich riding experience to customers. Also, Yamaha plans to expand this technology to Ray ZR 125 Fi soon.
