Thane, June 18: The Dombivli police have arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly killing his 13-year-old niece. The police informed that the accused allegedly banged his niece’s head on the door of a room.

According to police, the family resides in Dombivli east. Mahesh Sapliga stays with his wife Aarti, daughter Roshni, 14, and younger brother Mayuresh, 30, who is the accused. Shankar, 18, a neighbour, also used to stay with the family as he was alone.

According to police, when Mayuresh came back home on Thursday afternoon, he saw Shankar and Roshni sleeping together in the room through the window. Angry, Mayuresh attacked Shankar by throwing a paver block on him, but he missed and Shankar managed to run away.

"Mayuresh later assaulted his niece too by banging her head on the door and window. After the intervention of Roshni's mother, he left her. Roshni started bleeding due to her head injuries. So she was shifted to hospital and after treatment was brought back home. She then slept to take a rest. At night, when her mother tried to wake her up for dinner. She was not responding. Assuming she is unconscious, her parents again took her to hospital and she was declared dead by doctor," said a police officer.

Sachin Sandbhor, senior police inspector, Dombivli police station confirmed about a murder case been registered under section 302, 324, 323, 504 and 506 of the Indian penal code. "We have arrested the accused Mayuresh and are further investigating the matter," said Sandbhor.

The police said the girl's mother denied any wrongdoing between her daughter Roshni and Shankar. "Mayuresh who was in anger, first assaulted Shankar, but as he ran away. The anger came on the deceased girl and see was dead incidentally," said a police officer.
