Hyundai is all set to launch the new Alcazar today in our country. The new SUV will sit between Creta and Tucson. A lot of features, equipment, engine and transmission options have already been revealed by Hyundai. Hyundai is expected to price the Alcazar from Rs. 15 lakhs ex-showroom. The bookings of the SUV have already begun for a booking amount of Rs. 25,000. It will be offered in six variants. The Alcazar will be going against the MG Hector Plus, Mahindra XUV 500 and the Tata Safari. Here are a few things that we know about the Alcazar.

Engine and Transmission

The Alcazar will be offered in petrol and a diesel engine. There will be a 1.5-litre diesel engine that we have seen on the Creta. The power outputs have not been changed but Hyundai says the engine has been retuned to handle the additional weight. The engine produces 115 PS of max power and 250 Nm of peak torque.

Then there is the 2.0-litre petrol engine that has been derived from the Elantra. The engine produces 152 PS of max power and 192 Nm of peak torque. Both the engines will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Hyundai says that the petrol Alcazar with a manual gearbox will be able to hit a ton in under 10 seconds.

Best in segment wheelbase

The Alcazar is based on the Creta but the wheelbase has been increased by 150 mm. This has helped in liberating more cabin space and has also made space for the third row. The wheelbase measures 2,760 mm because of which Alcazar has the best in segment wheelbase. The Alcazar measures 4,500 mm in length, 1,790 mm in width and 1,675 mm in height.

Best in segment fuel efficiency

Hyundai claims that the Alcazar has best in class fuel efficiency. The petrol engine mated to a manual gearbox will return 14.5 kmpl and when mated to the automatic gearbox it will return 14.2 kmpl. Whereas the diesel engine is slightly more fuel-efficient at 20.4 kmpl when mated to the manual gearbox. With the automatic variant, the diesel engine will return 18.1 kmpl.

6 or 7 seater

The Alcazar will be offered as a 6 or a 7 seater SUV. The 7-seater version will get a traditional bench seat with a 60:40 split. There will also be a reclining and sliding function. The 6-seater version will get two captain seats. Yes, the competitors also offer captain seats but the first in segment feature that Alcazar will offer is a central console between the captain seats. The console will house two cupholders, storage and a wireless charger.

A lot of features on offer as standard

Hyundai is known to offer a lot of features with their vehicles. However, with the Alcazar, they have upped the game. They will offer automatic LED headlamps, a 7-inch digital supervision cluster, smart key, push-button to start/stop, automatic climate control, cruise control, a remote starter on key, rear sunshades, multi-function steering wheel and much more. All of this equipment will be offered as standard. Even a voice-enabled panoramic sunroof will be offered as standard. You will also get a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay on all the variants.
