Wearable shipments lift 33% to 22.0 mln in Q1 - IDC

Wearable shipments in Europe lifted 33 percent year-on-year in the first quarter to 22.0 million, according to the latest study from IDC. Sales were boosted by people getting more interested in fitness and wellness tracking. The watch form factor also grew in popularity, with sales up 38.7 percent. IDC noted that smartwatch makers are entering new partnerships with local operators and launching functionalities such as sports mode, watch faces, longer battery life, and more accurate sensors to encourage new users to join their digital ecosystem. The market is expected to reach 168.4 million
