KOLKATA: The ruling
Trinamool Congress got Left parties by its side against the
Bengal governor’s role and the Centre’s “intervention” in the state’s domain.
Left Front chairman
Biman Bose on Wednesday said governor Jagdeep Dhankhar was crossing his “constitutional brief ”.
“The governor is identifying himself with BJP. We don’t mind his going to places like he went to north Bengal. But is he carrying
BJP men along with him? His movements are being perceived as those by a BJP man. After all, the governor is a nominated person while the council of ministers is elected,” Bose said.
The Left Front chairman also extended support to state finance minister
Amit Mitra after he sent a dissent note to the 44th meeting of GST Council against the Centre’s imposition of tax on Covid relief materials. “The state finance minister has rightly raised the point. We want the Centre to waive tax on Covid-related items, including medicines. It is the Centre’s responsibility to arrange universal
vaccination and medical oxygen supply free of cost,” Bose said.
He also wanted the state government to come up with the factsheet on vaccination. “The state government should present vaccination numbers in the state and how many vaccination doses it got from the Centre. But the apparent vaccine figures from the Centre bears out that they are far below requirements,” Bose said.
The Left parties are going to hit the streets against spiralling fuel prices and price rise of primary commodities and medicines. “We will decide the date in a meeting of the 16 Left parties,” Bose said.
