Doc couple booked for kidnapping newborn

KARNAL: Police here have booked an Uttar Pradesh-based doctor couple on the charge of kidnapping a newborn boy from a Karnal woman in September last year. The matter came to light on Wednesday when Karnal police registered an FIR at Kunjpura police station after Karnal SP intervened. They are yet to rescue the baby or make any arrests.
In her complaint, Jyoti (28), a resident of Kunjpura village in Karnal, who is separated from her husband, said she came to know the doctor couple, D P Shrivastava and wife Shashibala Shrivastava, through a friend who was being treated at their charitable hospitalin Meerut. On September 14, 2020, she alleged, she gave birth to a boy at Karnal civil hospital. Four days later, the couple came to meet her and took the child with them, saying that the baby had a breathing problem and they will have to shift him to their hospital at Meerut for treatment.
They also took her signature on some documents on the pretext of treatment and asked her to stay at the Karnal hospital as she was unwell. When she tried to contact them, they threatened her with dire consequences if she asked them about the child or filed a police complaint, it has been alleged. Jyoti alleged that she approached police stations after this, but they did not take any action until she met Karnal SP in February.
