Limpopo is again experiencing an increase in the number of Covid-19 cluster outbreaks, with 390 new infections reported in the last 24 hours.
The latest cluster outbreak was at GG Mine in Lephalale, in the Waterberg district, which recorded 209 new infections.
Another cluster outbreak was reported at Marobathuto High School, in the Capricorn district, which recorded 91 new cases.
A total of 71 of the new infections came from the Polokwane area.
The Sekhukhune, Vhembe and Mopani districts have also seen a surge in the number of new cases.
A week ago, old age homes in BelaBela and Mookgophong were hit by cluster outbreaks.
In one of the facilities, Die Oog Old Age Home, 31 cases were recorded.
Concern
Health MEC Phophi Ramathuba said the increase in the number of new infections was a "serious concern".
"As a province, we have been recording less Covid-19 cases compared to other parts of the country. However, in the past 24 hours, we registered a total of 390 new cases.
"The department has dispatched its response teams to both districts, and all those affected institutions and organisations, to assist with tracing, screening, testing, quarantine and isolation, which are still effective ways to contain any cluster outbreaks."
She emphasised the need to adhere to Covid-19 regulations, such as avoiding social gatherings, among others.
The sudden increase in the number of new cases in the province came just after President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the country would move to Level 3 of the lockdown.
