The boys, identified only as David and Daniel, were playing in a street in Ardea, 20 miles from the capital, when they were shot dead by a man named locally as 35-year-old Andrea Pignani before he reportedly took his own life.
An elderly man was also killed by Pignani in what is believed to have been a random attack.

Immobile scored Italy’s third in their 3-0 win over Switzerland on Wednesday and pointed to the skies during his celebration.
‘On behalf of the whole team, I wanted to dedicate our win and my goal to David and Daniel, the two angels who are no longer with us,’ said Immobile. ‘It’s our duty to embrace them, wherever they are.’
He added: ‘We wanted to go to the funeral, too, but because of Covid regulations we were unable to.
‘We share the pain of this tragedy and on the pitch, we did what we could. It was our duty.’
