Tamil film director AL Vijay was born on June 18, 1979. He made his debut as a director with films like 'Kireedam' and 'Madraspattinam'.

His father AL Azhagappan, who is the President of Tamil Nadu Producers Council, has appeared in the film 'Eesan'. His brother is actor Udhaya.

Prior to directing films, Vijay was a successful ad film director with the Mumbai-based banner Venus Productions.

1. Thalaivi

Thalaivi is an Indian biographical film about the life of J. Jayalalithaa, politician and film actress who served six times as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Kangana Ranaut will be essaying the role of Jayalalithaa. The film was launched officially on Jayalalithaa's birth anniversary, February 24, 2019.

2. Kireedam

This is a Tamil action drama film. It was a hit at the box office. In this film, Sakthi is the obedient son of an honest policeman who wants him to join the force. When his father is transferred, as a punishment, Sakthi is also punished and he cannot join the force. As his father's dream lies shattered, Sakthi fights the law.

3. Lakshmi

This is a musical dance film that was released on the eve of Varalakshmi Vratam (August 28, 2018) and it is based on Goddess Lakshmi.

4. Poi Solla Porom

This is a Tamil comedy film. It is a story about a retired man who wants to build a home. His son is against the idea and wants to go to New York. A gang even tries to cheat the retired man. Eventually, his son comes around and helps him build the house.

5. Sometimes (Sila Samayangalil)

This is a Tamil drama film. In this film, seven people anxiously wait in a clinic for their HIV results and they bribe the staff to learn of their result quickly.

6. Madrasapattinam

This is a Tamil romantic period action drama film. In 1940s India, during the country's struggle for Independence, the young daughter of an English governor falls in love with a local boy. When her father tries to force her to marry an English officer, the two fight for their love.
