When is Amazon Prime Day 2021?

Amazon has confirmed that Prime Day will take place on June 21 and June 22, instead of the usual July — though last year the event was delayed until October due to distribution issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. It was worth the wait, though: Shoppers had more discounts than ever before to choose from, netting $3.24 billion in sales, saving customers more than $1.4 billion.

What Amazon Prime Day deals can we expect?

Nothing is off the cards when it comes to Amazon Prime Day deals, with everything from Fire TV Sticks and Keurigs to MacBooks and even 8K TVs on sale for a fraction of their usual cost at earlier installments of the digital shopping bonanza. In short: If you have your eye on something and you can buy it online, chances are it will be cheaper on Prime Day 2021.

Of course, some hardware is treated to larger reductions than others. Amazon’s own products, for example, are often some of the most discounted — with the Fire TV Stick often going for half-off. Other must-have products like the Amazon Echo and Amazon Kindle also receive a huge blow with the price-cutting sword, as are digital subscriptions like Twitch Prime.

With so many retailers now participating in Prime Day, it’s tough to predict exactly what will be on offer. Although, if the Prime Day deals of yesteryear are anything to go by, it’s fair to say if you’re on the hunt for something electronic, it will be discounted on Prime Day 2021 (if Amazon doesn’t stock it, you should be able to find it on sale at a different merchant, like Target).

Are any Amazon Prime Day deals too good to be true?

For every good deal out there on Prime Day, there are a dozen bad. That’s why it’s important to not only consult an impartial source of buying advice to find out whether the offer you’re looking at is really worth your hard-earned cash, but also to have an understanding of the tricks retailers use to dupe customers into thinking they’re looking at the deal of the decade.

Most merchants treat Prime Day as a chance to offload stagnant stock, so most of the discounts you’ll find will be on aging models that people aren’t interested in anymore — and they use some immoral methods to flog them. For instance, you may find an HDTV reduced to a rock-bottom price, yet nowhere on the top half of the page does it state that it’s only 720p HD.

So, what’s the issue? Well, the retailers aren’t technically at fault here. They disclose all the information they’re required to. But they bury it to fool bargain-hunting customers into taking advantage of an offer without doing their homework. Our point? If a deal is too good to be true, it probably is — even on Prime Day. There’s no harm in doing a little bit of research.

Even if you just take to Google to make sure it has the one feature you have your heart set on, you will at least avoid some disappointment when it arrives. We have some better advice, though: Search for the best Prime Day deals right here at Digital Trends, where our experts separate the wheat from the chaff, then detail everything you need to know about each product.

What items are on sale on Amazon Prime Day?

Honestly, everything. Typically, there are big savings on everything from laptops, TVs, kitchen appliances, home and office equipment, right down to fashion, books, DVDs and Blu-rays, as well as gaming items. There’s not really anything that isn’t on sale at some point during Prime Day. Whether you need a fitness wearable or the latest iPad, there’s usually a discount during Prime Day.

One thing to bear in mind is that Amazon loves to heavily discount its own products during this time. That means it’s usually very likely that you’ll see big price cuts on Amazon Kindles, Amazon Alexa smart speakers, along with other products owned by Amazon such as Ring smart video doorbells. Sometimes, there are discounts on Amazon gift cards too, which can be useful for giving as presents.

Do other retailers offer Amazon Prime Day deals?

Not officially, no. As Amazon.com is the only Amazon store, it’s the only official place to take part in Prime Day. However, other major retailers such as Walmart, Target, and Best Buy often use the two-day event to also provide deals to customers. In 2020, Walmart’s Big Save Event actually lasted a day longer than Prime Day meaning you could enjoy discounts for a little longer than usual.

And guess what? Walmart has confirmed that will be the case this year too. On June 15, the retailer updated its website to reveal that its so-called ‘Deals for Days’ shopping event will start on June 20 and run through June 23.  So it’s safe to say that this is unofficially a Walmart Prime Day sale and we can expect to see some incredible deals that rival what Amazon brings to the table.

Is Amazon Prime Day better for deals than Black Friday?

Yes and no. When it comes to Amazon products, you can’t really beat Prime Day for the biggest discounts. However, as Black Friday doesn’t apply to any one store, it can be a better sales season as retailers are all keen to provide the best sales and deals. Both sales seasons are worth checking out and much of when to buy comes down to when you actually need the product.
