Karnataka 2nd PUC Results: Don't declare results of freshers till a decision is taken on repeaters/failed candidates, says HC

BENGALURU: The high court on Thursday asked the state government not to declare the results of 2nd PUC fresh candidates, till the expert committee constituted on the issue of promotion policy vis-a-vis repeaters/ failed candidates takes a decision in the matter.
A division bench headed by Justice BV Nagarathna passed this order after the state government and Pre University Education department submitted that an expert committee has been constituted to look into the issue of various categories of repeaters.
The bench pointed out that since data of 1st PUC marks of repeaters being available ( excluding private candidates),the state government can consider their case on par with freshers, who will be promoted without any examination, solely on the basis of 1st year PUC performance.
As regards to private candidates, the bench noted that since no data is available with regards to their 1st year PUC performance, they have to take up the 2 nd PUC examination, as and when it is held.
The next hearing on the issue will take place on July 5.
The court is hearing a PIL filed by one SV Singre Gowda secretary, managing trustee of Jnanamandira Education Trust, Bengaluru.
Petitioner has claimed that repeaters/failed 2nd PUC candidates are being forced to write examination after the easing of Covid situation, whereas fresh candidates have been promoted without any examination,on the strength of their 1st PUC marks and the same is discriminatory.
